What is this small, black dot inside my mouth?

I just brushed my teeth and I noticed a small, black, almost pepper-like dot in the middle of the skin next to my last molar. I've never seen it before and it doesn't hurt. I can't scratch it off, no matter how much I try. The dot is not on the tooth but on the skin beside the tooth. What could this be?
