How accurate is the Body Mass Index (BMI)?
If the Body Mass Index calculator is accurate, then Tim Tebow is obese! He is 6'3" and weighs 240 pounds, which gives him a BMI of 30. Why is this tool still being used if it doesn't take into consideration muscle mass or weight distribution/build?
BMI is completely pointless if it only takes mass into consideration. The vast majority of men who are 6' 3" weigh 200 pounds or over, and this is considered overweight according to the BMI.
because according to BMI a person can be obese, but in real life, the person weighs 130lbs of MUSCLE. BMI uses MASS to calculate which means how much the person weighs regardless if it is muscle or fat.
It is only used as a general guideline, kind of a "rule of thumb" but not very accurate
