David Kemp: 'Cage for Exercising Demons' - How was it joined together?
David Kemp's sculpture, 'Cage for Exercising Demons' was made using found objects, wooden boxes, bird cages, horns and iron wheels.
How would he have joined these materials together to make the sculpture?
Without having seen the sculpture, let me give you a few ideas:
Wooden parts are often best fastened together with screws. Gluing and screwing make an even stronger junction. Horn or other materials can be fastened to wood by drilling the former and screwing into the latter. Two pieces of horn can be fastened together by drilling a hole in each , passing a bolt through both holes and applying a nut which is then tightened. Don't overlook the myriad of things that can be brought together with string, twine, rope, etc. Some very large scaffolding is used in the orient--bamboo tied with rope. There is a universe of adhesives. We've got hot melts, all types of glue. and a family of epoxies.
I've doubtless overlooked more methods than I've mentioned, but maybe this will get you started.
