what happens if I ignore a tsa fine?
I had brought a small keychain expandable baton (12 inches) with my carry since it was on my key chain and forgot about it. Tsa did a report and now they'll fine me. Will they put me on a special list now, can I just ignore the fine if I travel again, what will happen now? Please real answers, no opinions, thanks.
Why ignore the TSA fine? Why not pay it so you don't have to worry about something like not being allowed to fly in the future?
First though, can you appeal the fine? Did TSA tell you there would be a fine? It must be because an extendable baton is a weapon, I'm surmising. Try to appeal the fine regardless and tell them it was accidental that you had the baton with you while traveling. It sounds like a first offense with TSA. Ask them to take that into consideration as well. Explain if you have any financial difficulties.
If this doesn't work, just suck it up and pay it so you don't make the situation any worse. Not paying the TSA fine isn't going to result in the fine just disappearing and going away. TSA might send it to a collection agency and, if so, it will affect your credit one day.
