Are shin/instep protectors ideal for the heavy bag?
I am currently punching and kicking a heavy bag to stay in shape. I am not a serious kick boxer or anything like that. I wrap my hands and wear boxing gloves to protect myself from hard spots on the bag. When I practice my kicks to the lower leg, which is at the bottom of the heavy bag, there are some hard spots that hurt if you kick them just right. Will shin/in step protectors help out when kicking these hard spots, or are they more suitable for kicking at an actual human being? Thanks for ANY info!
Whenever you kick the heavy bag you should wear elastic ankle supports. They help to reduce the shock that you feel in your foot and ankle. You can purchase them at any drug store.
You want to condition your shins to accept the kind of punishment they will receive in an actual fight. A good way to do this is by NOT wearing any padding on them.
I always wore elastic ankle braces in training and in competition, and NEVER wore instep/shin protectors at any time.
