Is Full-Contact Kickboxing good for the street?
Hello, I would like to know if the sport full-contact kickboxing is good for the street or for self-defense. If you're unfamiliar with the name, I'm referring to the "american" version of kickboxing, where fighter's use pants and the rules doesn't allow kicks below the waist, neither elbows or knees. Maybe it's not as good as muay thai or mma, but do you still consider it good for self-defense or street fights?
Against a single clueless guy yes! If you faced a mean and skilled adversary, you might get knocked out. Against someone who knocks you to the ground, you're toast. Against someone with a weapon, you could lose your life. Against a bunch of attackers, good luck.
Please remember what you are referring to is American kickboxing which is a SPORT. In sport fighting you have rules, regulations and a ref. In the street there are no rules and regulations and certainly no ref to stop the action and separate you. While I'm not saying a certain kick or punch can't stop an attacker, no one can guarantee it would work either. Do not get lulled into that state of mind. There are many many other factors involved in a street situation.
