What does male to female, or male to male mean in cable terms?
I need to run a mini displayport to hdmi so i can display my macbook alluminum on my 52 inch jvc. And i think i know that for the most part, but I don't understand the "male female" terminology.
Ok, now that i understand what it is, how will i know what i need.
Male-to-female is when one end of the cable has prongs, and the other side has holes the prongs would go into. This is a conversion cable to convert male to female or vice versa.
Male-to-male is when one end of the cable has prongs, and the other end has prongs.
To know what you need, just look if there's holes in whatever you're plugging it into. That would be a male-to-female if whatever you're connecting it to has a prong/prongs. (I'm assuming you don't need female-to-female, which essentially is an extension cable)
It would help to know what you're connecting.
