What would be good cross training for Chen Taiji?
I just started learning Chen style Taiji recently, and I would just like to know what types of cross-training might be good to improve my technique.
What makes you think cross training is going to improve your technique?
Chen Style is a complete system that needs no improvement. Tui Shou - Push Hands, is an aspect of sparring and is not all there is to Tai Chi.
This system has very dangerous striking, joint dislocating/breaking techniques, energy projection, throwing, locks and much more. You would not know that because you just started.
It is not a system that depends on your muscles for executing proper and effective technique. So there is nothing that would improve on something that is already perfect.
Forget about cross training. Give it a year and you will realize that the whole cross training band wagon is BS.
Power is generated by proper body mechanics.
Just give it a chance to teach you how little you know about your body. You will be amazed at the things you will be able to do, just by applying the principles.
Stick with it.
