Exercise with upper respiratory infection?
Hello everybody,
I've had an upper respiratory infection (particularly in the bronchials) for 2 days now. I have taken 2 days off but am getting jittery about taking a 3rd day off. Any words of wisdom about this would be appreciated. I am not running a fever (as far as I know), am slightly stuffy, the cough is rather 'barky' and kind of comes on spasmodically. I don't know.... should I lay off? (workout: kickboxing, resistance training and very intense yoga) Thank you.
hello
I have heard from physicians that it is better to rest in cases of infections rather than working out. The theory behind it is that with exercise your heart pumps faster and your circulation becomes faster thus helping in spreading the infection more effectively. The blood carries the microorganisms to other parts more quickly, besides there is the physical fatigue due to the exercise which will make your body weaker.
